First Capital worked with the community regarding the renovation to the former Mac’s Convenience Store space and associated parking lot. Starbucks, Fancy Franks, and Freedom Mobile have moved in over the last year. Based on the feedback provided from the community, and as part of these renovations, landscaping was added to the parking lot to reduce the number of entry points for vehicles; making the corner safer for pedestrians.
We are proposing a new mixed-use communityintegrating new retail, commercial and residential uses. There will be two buildings, 10- and 13-storeys, with 455 residential units and almost 50,000 square feet of retail space. The redevelopment will improve the public realm and will place a sharp focus on increasing pedestrian safety.
First Capital will be working with the existing retail tenants on the future of this site. As a retail developer, we appreciate the value that our retailers provide for people in the neighbourhood. Part of our vision for the site is to continue to provide excellent shops and services that best serve the needs of the community. We are early in the planning process. If you have any suggestions for shops or services that you would like to see as part of the redevelopment, please let us know.
The shops and services that will be included will be selected to serve our neighbouring community members. We want to revitalize retail on Avenue Road by making this site a destination in the neighbourhood.
We are still early on in the planning process. An application was submitted on June 9, 2020. Through the formal review process, we intend to continue to incorporate feedback from the community, City Staff and other key stakeholders, into subsequent resubmissions to the City.
